Mehmet Atakan Foça is a social entrepreneur and founder of Teyit, a fact-checking and digital literacy organization. After an individual was misidentified as a terrorist because of a viral photo, Mehmet focused his work on protecting people from the real-world harm caused by false information and online targeting. Teyit works to strengthen public trust by building critical thinking habits through workshops that have empowered over 10,000 young people to navigate the digital age. The Disinformation Policy Monitoring Center, another Teyit initiative, seeks to hold Big Tech accountable to the Digital Services Act, the landmark EU regulation designed to create a safer, more transparent online environment. Mehmet’s work focuses on teaching future generations to coordinate across the technological and civic sectors to ensure that digital ecosystems serve democracy rather than dismantle it.
