Marta Piechocka-Nowakowska is a sociologist and the founder of the Libraries for Climate program at the Information Society Development Foundation. As a climate education trainer, she believes that Poland’s nearly 8,000 public libraries, as trusted centers of local life, can serve as powerful catalysts for a just green transition. Libraries for Climate connects national environmental goals and rural community action through expert tutoring, e-learning development, and the creation of research projects testing new approaches to climate education and community engagement. Honored for her work in the 2025 "Climate Person of the Year" competition organized by the Ministry of Climate and Environment, Marta coordinated a national network of librarians to implement nearly 300 public events for 5,000 residents. Together with her team, Marta has translated scientific facts into tangible local outcomes, such as a grassroots carpooling system to address transport exclusion and community-driven flood preparedness workshops in underserved areas.
