Kal Glanznig
2026-2027 Obama Foundation Asia-Pacific Leader
Co-Founder, Blue Minds Youth Ocean Leadership and Councillor, Sutherland Shire Council
Australia
Kal Glanznig is the co-founder of Blue Minds and the youngest-ever unaffiliated councilor for Sutherland Shire. Kal is dedicated to empowering youth through ocean conservation and environmental policy. He has delivered workshops and keynotes to over 30,000 Australians and produced a documentary, RISING UP, which has reached over 100,000 students to address eco-anxiety and drive climate action. In 2025, Kal raised more than $700,000 to grow Blue Minds’ reach to 4.5 million Gen Z Australians and helped lead a coalition of 400 businesses that pushed through a statewide ban on single-use plastics in New South Wales. His latest feature documentary, The Plastic Country, investigates Australia’s relationship with plastic and mobilizes communities around national reform. Activated by a sense of justice for Pacific Island neighbors, he works to prove that grassroots movements can effectively shape national legislation through optimism and a shared love of the environment.
