João Bosco Liberty Nahak
2026-2027 Obama Foundation Asia-Pacific Leader
IoT (Internet of Things) Manager, Similie
Timor-Leste
João Bosco Liberty Nahak is the IoT (Internet of Things) manager at Similie, an enterprise that supports public sector and natural resources organizations with organizational effectiveness through software development. He led the installation of more than 60 environmental monitoring stations across eight municipalities in Timor-Leste, providing real-time data to protect vulnerable rural communities from floods and droughts. Through the Similie Academy, João equips Timorese youth with digital skills, fostering a new generation of homegrown innovators. Fueled by the belief that technology must serve human dignity, he aims to transition Timor-Leste from a state of aid dependency into a regional hub for independent innovation. João ensures early-warning systems are integrated into national disaster management frameworks through design, research, and stakeholder engagement. João blends technical mastery with a deep commitment to cultural grounding to solve urgent environmental challenges.
