Tackling learning deficits among low-income primary students in India by integrating technology, teacher training, and parent involvement through community hubs.

Kavita Rawat is a former senior project manager at the Central Square Foundation, where she led a team that designed tech-enabled literacy and numeracy programs for students across more than 400 government schools in India. As a Teach For India Fellow during and after the COVID-19 pandemic, she solidified her dedication to integrating technology into schools—witnessing firsthand how school closures resulted in learning deficits, especially among primary school students from low-income households. An initiative she led as a Fellow distributed digital devices and internet packs, increasing digital class attendance from 20 percent to 90 percent and boosting parental involvement. Through the Scholars program, Kavita aims to establish a learning hub in her hometown of Masi to bridge classroom instruction with after-school practice, professional development for teachers, and parental involvement. To turn this proof of concept into a lasting standard, she plans to utilize the program's executive coaching and global network to learn how to navigate complex institutional mindsets and build relationships across key stakeholders to strengthen community trust. Her long-term vision is to ensure geography and circumstance don't determine anyone's opportunity to learn and succeed, with a focus on delivering high-quality solutions to India's Himalayan and remote communities.
