National Program Manager, The Dutch Research Council

Netherlands

Rowinda Appelman is the national program manager for the City Deal on Education at the Dutch Research Council. In this role, she is responsible for building the first nationwide education innovation network for the Dutch government, uniting all Dutch universities, universities of applied sciences, and vocational educators in the country's 20 biggest cities. Together with universities, city councils, and partner organizations in each city, Rowinda is developing a new curriculum model to ensure that all Dutch university students are embedded in the city where they study and engaged in tackling a significant social issue for their local community as part of their studies. This new movement for civic education and local engagement brings together students, teachers, and researchers with the goal of solving local problems by fostering more civically minded citizens. Rowinda is passionate about education innovation, social impact, and learning communities.
