Fikiri is a recognized human rights activist from Burundi. His work focuses on the protection and promotion of the rights of women and girls in his community and around. Since 2011, his organization Youth Coalition Against Gender-based Violence - Semerera has empowered hundreds of vulnerable and uneducated women and girls by providing them with valuable skills that allows them to move towards economic independence, eradicate poverty, and fight against gender-based violence. In 2014, he was selected for the first cohort of the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders and completed a civic leadership track from the University of Delaware. In 2016, he was awarded Chevening, a prestigious and highly competitive scholarship program funded by the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office, which allowed him to successfully complete a master's degree in international criminal law and international human rights law in the UK.
