Come to Our Neighborhood and see what Chicago is made of. Hyde Park After more than a century in business, the cafeteria style restaurant has earned itself a legion of loyal regulars. Established in 1921, Valois prides itself in serving wholesome meals made from natural ingredients at a reasonable price. To blend in like a native, make sure you pronounce it, “Vuh-loyz.”

Entertainment and Attractions

South Shore Founded in 1905, South Shore Cultural Center includes a 65-acre park and surrounding grounds, a golf course, nature sanctuary, bathing beach, and the South Shore Cultural Center School of the Arts. Fun fact: President and Mrs. Obama hosted their wedding reception at the Cultural Center.

Bud Billiken Parade

Bronzeville

The exuberant celebration of Black American culture and history is a nearly century-old Chicago tradition. Enjoy vendors, music, colorful floats every August in one of the country’s largest parades.

PRIDE South Side

Hyde Park

Celebrate the diversity of the LGBTQ+ community at Pride South Side. Held at The DuSable Black History Museum in Washington Park, this annual event features performances, dancing, local vendors, and more.

  • Hyde Park

    Discover Hyde Park, a vibrant community situated along the shores of Lake Michigan. Explore an eclectic array of world class dining options, visit one of the community’s many museums such as the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry, or check out one of Hyde Park’s famous bookstores like 57th Street Books.

  • Washington Park/Woodlawn

    Home to some of the city's oldest churches, beloved restaurants, and beautiful outdoor spaces, this is a must-visit destination for history buffs and cultural explorers alike. Visit one of Chicago’s historic communities brimming with cultural institutions like the DuSable Black History Museum and Education Center, the Green Line Performing Arts Center, and the Lorraine Hansberry House.

  • Bronzeville

    Once known as the “Black Metropolis”, historic Bronzeville is a thriving center for Black culture in Chicago. Bronzeville boasts a diverse array of world-class galleries, historic landmarks such as the Chicago Defender Building, and lively community events like the annual Bud Billiken Parade.

  • Kenwood

    Kenwood offers a captivating blend of stunning 19th-century architecture and major cultural landmarks, including the homes of former residents like President Barack Obama and boxing legend Muhammad Ali. A must-see destination for architecture buffs, Kenwood features an impressive collection of sleek art deco buildings and the iconic Frank Lloyd Wright-designed George Blossom House.

  • South Shore

    South Shore hosts a blend of restaurants and businesses, and eye-catching architecture like the South Shore Cultural Center. Head to South Shore to play a round of golf, check out a show at the eta Creative Arts Foundation or take in a drink at Jeffery Pub, one of the oldest Black-owned LGBTQ+ bars in the United States. 

  • Englewood

    Best known as a hub for Black art and events, Englewood hosts a variety of annual events such as the Englewood Music Festival and Englewood Jazz Festival. Tour through the historic neighborhood's Arts District or check out agricultural projects like the Growing Home farm stand.
