We The People
Obama Presidential Center Honoree

Space Name: We The People Landing | Museum | Lower Level
We The People. The three opening words of the Constitution are just as revolutionary today as they were when they were first written. The representation of all people, built through collective effort and shared responsibility, echoes through every era of our country’s history. This space invites everyone to see themselves as active participants in the ongoing work of democracy and civic life.

Obama Presidential Center Museum
The We The People landing, located on the Lower Level of the Museum, is anchored by This Land, Shared Sky , a collaborative commissioned textile installation by Nick Cave and Marie Watt that merges Indigenous and Black traditions.

You Are America
The Museum’s façade features a quote from President Obama’s speech “You Are America,” honoring the 50th anniversary of the Selma to Montgomery voting rights marches.

Meet More Honorees
Through the honoree naming initiative at the Obama Presidential Center, we are partnering with our donors to celebrate a part of the history in which the Obama story is so deeply rooted by associating a named space with a hero, moment, or person "on whose shoulders we stand"—an honoree who made the Obamas’ story possible.
