Weary Blues

The artwork

In Weary Blues, Chicago artist Lindsay Adams draws inspiration from Langston Hughes’s famous poem of the same name. Originally created as an oil painting and adapted into fabric panels, the work features floating flowers against a moody blue field. Adams uses color and abstraction to explore themes of resilience, rest, and the enduring power of Black creative expression.

Lindsay Adams is a Chicago-based artist whose work explores identity, memory, and representation through layered compositions of color and texture. Drawing on personal and collective histories, her paintings move between abstraction and figuration, often combining multiple visual moments within a single surface. She studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
