Patrick McGann, MD, Ph.D., directs the Lifespan Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center at Alpert Medical School of Brown University. The innovative sickle cell center is grounded through a health equity lens and uses an anti-racist approach to provide comprehensive, patient-centered care for individuals affected by sickle cell disease. Patrick is committed to changing the paradigm of care such that individuals with sickle cell disease are prioritized and live longer and healthier lives. His work focuses on recognizing and directly addressing the effects of structural and interpersonal racism for individuals with sickle cell disease, which disproportionately affects Black people. In addition to his work in the United States, Patrick is committed to addressing the global burden of sickle cell disease through his efforts in Angola and other parts of sub-Saharan Africa.
