“Shawn’s experience leading in complex business and nonprofit environments, advising on strategic initiatives and negotiating transactions that grow and advance communities will be an asset to the organization’s evolution and expansion,” said Valerie Jarrett, President of the Obama Foundation. “She brings the necessary judgment and commitment to move our vision forward.”

White began her career on Wall Street leveraging her economics degree from Barnard College at Columbia University. After graduating Stanford Law School, she joined Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, LLP’s New York office where she was a member of the international practice and focused on mergers and acquisitions, capital markets and securities transactions. After leaving the law firm, White served as Vice President – Corporate Counsel in the enterprise-wide strategic mergers and acquisitions, securities and governance unit at Prudential Financial with a concurrent role as Chief Legal Counsel to the Prudential Foundation.

Most recently, White served as General Counsel to the Eli & Edythe Broad Foundation and the Broad Family Office. White is a member of the State Bars of California and New York.

“I am thrilled to join at this pivotal time,” said White. “I was raised with a commitment to service, civic engagement and educational excellence by my late mother, a lifelong public-school teacher. This is an exciting opportunity to honor those core values and advance the vision for the Obama Presidential Center and the Obama legacy of service with this important work.”

White will join the Foundation later this month and relocate to Chicago later this year.
