Center BYMOC voices – collect feedback and ideas from BYMOC on issues impacting them. Consider youth advisory boards, focus groups, community associations, committees and existing youth advocacy groups.

Bring together/convene a small group of BYMOC to hear their issues;

Assess the current level of BYMOC engagement (AYCE Guide Inventory)

Identify leadership opportunities within each local partner’s structure that BYMOC can participate in a decision-making capacity

Invite and include BYMOC in existing leadership within city and/or community-based structures

Create a formalized body (youth council / neighborhood advisory), of BYMOC

Secure funding commitment and/or decision-making authority for the formalized youth body or youth representative

Develop a formal / continuous youth recruitment effort (succession planning)

Build public and political will. Garner commitment from local elected officials for a city-wide approach to improving outcomes for BYMOC

Identify and engage champions and decision makers in local systems that have impact on equity for BYMOC in the 6 milestones. This includes businesses, non-profits, school districts, colleges and universities, workforce system, law enforcement/criminal justice system, health and human service systems.

Complete a stakeholder assessment map – Are organizations beyond local government engaged? Are the 5 core partners – school district, local gov’t, CBOs, businesses, philanthropy engaged?

Develop an agreement/memorandum of understanding around the commitment with demonstrated leadership and commitment from external partners stating what they bring to the table (money, time, skills, etc.)
