Tavailau Segi is the founder and lead environmental scientist at Oceanic Pacific Services LLC, where he works to support ocean sustainability and conservation. While completing his Ph.D. in biology at Brigham Young University, he studied marine life with Hawaiian communities, examined soil and sand trapping by fishponds and mangrove forests, and used computer mapping and satellite data for conservation planning. Tavailau is inspired by the strength and traditional knowledge of Pacific Island communities and is dedicated to increasing diversity, fairness, and inclusion in science nationally by giving voice to minority and indigenous perspectives.
