Sasha Blackfox-Qualls
2025-2026 Obama Foundation USA Leader

Tribal Councilor, The Cherokee Nation - District 1
Hulbert, Oklahoma
Sasha Blackfox-Qualls is a tribal councilor for the Cherokee Nation and a Registered Nurse on the Cherokee Nation Tribal Council, where she focuses on addressing maternal and neonatal health in her community. Sasha co-led the TeamBirth initiative, a collaboration between patients and healthcare providers that improved communication and decision-making during childbirth. This reduced maternal mortality rates and achieved a below-national-average cesarean section rate among Native Americans in the Cherokee Nation. Sasha has successfully built coalitions across her community to advocate for and receive grants, which resulted in a rural school’s improved structural condition.
