Executive Director & Chief Curator, The Kitchen
New York City, New York
Legacy Russell is the executive director and chief curator at The Kitchen, a nonprofit cultural institution that spotlights experimental artists through exhibitions, public programming, and live performances. Along with stewarding cultural production and free artistic expression across The Kitchen’s initiatives, she has coalesced leading funders to make investments in helping The Kitchen build towards sustainability and incorporate broader representation into its staff and board in the first three years of her leadership. Formerly the associate curator of exhibition at the Studio Museum in Harlem, she has authored two books, Glitch Feminism and Black Meme, where she analyzes representations of race, gender, and class at the intersection of art and technology, challenging systems of oppression through and beyond digital spaces. Her first chapbook of poems is GAY POMPEII.
