Indira Ghandi Islas is the government affairs and policy director at the National Hispanic Medical Association, where she advocates for Hispanic healthcare access and equity. She leads policy initiatives focusing on access, prevention, research, and health professional education at the federal and state levels. Indira previously created “Dreamers for a Bipartisan Solution,” an organization that mobilized members of Congress for permanent bipartisan legislation for DACA beneficiaries. Indira brings an interdisciplinary and pluralistic approach to her work, which includes research analyzing Latino participation across healthcare professions, aiming to create a healthcare system and society where diverse communities, especially undocumented immigrants and people of color, have equitable access to education and healthcare.
