Billy Hackett is a Juris Doctor candidate at the University of Florida Levin College of Law. Previously, he was the policy specialist at the National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition, where he worked on federal policy measures to support small farmers, revitalize rural economies, and build a climate-resilient food system. Raised in rural Florida and shaped by his experience in a rural farmworker community during the pandemic, Billy helped co-found the a bipartisan “Strange Barnfellows” coalition, uniting farm, conservation, and taxpayer interests to reform federal farming subsidies. His work has led to the introduction of a dozen federal bills and produced a widely cited report on farm subsidies entered into the Congressional Record.
