Maroš Chmelík is the executive director of the Center for Community Organizing, a Slovakian nonprofit organization working to empower communities to actively participate in decision-making processes at local, regional, and national levels. Maroš’s primary focus is on preventing violent extremism and radicalization by developing tools for depolarization and reducing societal tensions, with a strong emphasis on the role of local communities and civic initiatives. With over twelve years of experience in community organizing, Maroš has led his team in establishing several key civic initiatives in Slovakia aimed at safeguarding democracy and is about to embark on a new project to support Roma communities in his country.
