Independent Writer

Republic Of Korea

Hyuntaek is an independent writer who worked as the former assistant editor at The Chosun Ilbo and former chair of the International Committee of Investigative Reporters and Editors, which fosters networking and provides resources to empower underrepresented journalists to share knowledge and address systemic challenges. He has expanded access to global journalism programs, enabling participation from journalists in Sierra Leone, Palestine, and Pakistan, with plans to include Malawi and Uganda. Hyuntaek also leads trilateral exchanges among journalists from Korea, China, and Japan to promote cross-border collaboration. As the author of a journalism textbook and a lecturer at Ewha Womans University and Chosun Journalism Academy, he is committed to making journalism more accessible—believing that barriers stem from a lack of resources, not talent. He draws inspiration from the resilience of journalists who continue their work despite personal risk.
