Christine Alfons
2025-2026 Obama Foundation Africa Leader

Founder and Executive Director, Safe Engage Foundation
Kenya
Christine Alfons is the founder and executive director of Safe Engage Foundation, a youth-led, community-based organization dedicated to advancing the rights of women and girls. Under her leadership, Safe Engage Foundation works to eliminate female genital mutilation/cutting and all forms of gender-based violence, including early and forced child marriages within communities in Kenya through prevention, advocacy, and direct community engagement. Driven by her personal experience and a deep commitment to justice, Christine has created safe spaces and refuge for hundreds of women and girls each year, while also leading grassroots programs that empower communities to challenge harmful social norms. Her work has helped shape county-level policies, build strong networks of young changemakers, and position youth leadership at the center of gender equality efforts in Kenya and beyond. Christine’s unwavering belief in the power of community-led transformation continues to fuel her vision for a world where every girl and woman can live free from violence and thrive.
