Impact Applicants in Chicago

As home to the Obama Foundation, Chicago has been pre-selected as an Impact Community, and is a focus and demonstration site for our work. Organizations applying must meet all Eligibility Criteria as described in this RFP.

In addition, we invite applications that demonstrate:

  • A focus on the South Side, especially the communities of Kenwood, Washington Park, Hyde Park, Woodlawn, Greater Grand Crossing, and/or South Shore as part of scalable efforts to support boys and young men of color; and/or
  • A record of engaging with established city-wide initiatives to support boys and young men of color within the violence prevention and mentoring domains.

Nonprofit organizations applying as backbone organizations should address these points within the proposal narrative and throughout their written applications.

Seed Grant Applicants in Chicago

While only one organization will be able to serve as the backbone organization for Chicago’s Impact Community, the Obama Foundation is interested in supporting, and learning from, emerging community-based organizations that are serving the needs of boys and young men of color within the violence prevention and mentoring domains in unique ways.  As such, MBK Alliance will award up to five Seed Grants to high-performing Chicago nonprofit organizations to test or expand innovative work in our areas of focus.

Up to five Chicago Seed Grants will be implemented as follows:

AWARD / FUNDING $25,000 to $50,000 in funding to expand a programmatic intervention in violence prevention and mentoring for a sub-population of BYMOC in the community, capacity building and technical assistance for strategic program expansion, and/or evaluating and measuring impacts of evidence-informed programmatic interventions in violence prevention and mentoring.
TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE Access to implementation and content partners to advise on overarching plan development and long-term infrastructure to sustain the work.

Nonprofit organizations applying as backbone organizations must meet all Eligibility Criteria as described in this RFP except for the following changes:

  1. Length of time in operation:
    1. If your organization has been in existence for less than three years, you must provide a Memorandum of Understanding with an organization that meets this requirement that that will serve as a Fiscal Agent.
    2. Documents to be submitted with the proposal (see listing above) should be provided for both the Applicant organization as well as the Fiscal Agent.
  2. Size of operating budget:
    1. Must have an annual operating budget of $250,000 or more, and at least one year of audited financials.

In addition, we invite applications that demonstrate:
